Depression

I know I've been quiet the last few days. Many of you know that I struggle with depression. Although it didn't get quite so deep this time, it still came. And when that happens, there's not much I can do except ride it out. I know it will get better. I've finally learned not to make decisions while in that state. I just let my body do what it needs to do to get through it, which generally consists of sleeping and staring at the TV all day.

I'm very fortunate that my fiance understands my struggle and always seems to know what I need. He reminds me that it's ok to "do nothing," which, for my task-oriented self, is very important to hear.

I also am very fortunate to have friends on Facebook that understand my struggle. I simply post that I'm having a rough day, and instantly, I have countless posts of support. Those mean so much to me.

Did you know that many great artists, writers and painters alike, have struggled with mental illness? I have wondered in the past if it's part of what makes it possible to create. Hemmingway, Van Gogh, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Pablo Picasso, Cole Porter, Tolstoy, Tennessee Williams, and countless other "greats" reportedly all struggled with the stuff. I'm not saying I'm even close to being as talented as these folks, but if they did what they did, while (or because of) struggling, then I am in good company.

Updates

I hope y'all are enjoying Distorted Hope. Feedback has been mostly positive, so I'm pretty happy. :)

Life has gotten pretty crazy around here, with school starting up again (I homeschool my little ones) and my fiance moving in with his two kids. But I'm very happy and looking forward to getting married very soon...as soon as we find a weekend to do so. LOL.

In case you haven't heard, I've begun work on a book about Devin: his backstory and how he turned into the man we all love to hate in Anna's story. This in turn will also lead into Talia's story, which takes place about 10 years after The Life of Anna. (or at least that's what I have in mind right now. Timelines might change...who knows. My characters don't always listen to me.)

If you have anything in particular that you'd like to learn about Devin, please email me and I will ask him about it...he's not always forthcoming about things, but I'm hopeful his younger self will be less secretive.

I will write Devin's story as I can, but can't make any promises as to when I'll be done. Hopefully sooner than later.

The 80s...

I'm delving into Devin's past and have come to the horrific conclusion that it is totally 80s. So I need your help!

A New Week

I'm so glad this week is finally over. We got a new cat and as sweet as he is, he had triggers that caused him to attack two of my boys. They both ended up in the emergency room and got staples in their head. They're both fine, and needless to say, we got rid of the cat, but it's just part of what was a very stressful week.

I'm so glad it's a new week at last.

This week promises to be good as Distorted Hope releases on Tuesday. I've had several people ask if it's a start of a new series. It's not. It's a standalone, but you will see a couple of characters from The Life of Anna that I'm hopeful will make you squeal with delight.

...is how Marissa describes her books when asked. She doesn't seek to write any particular genre, style, or length, only following her gut instincts and the lead of her characters. The Life of Anna crosses many genre lines including erotica, suspense, psychological thriller, horror, political conspiracy, paranormal, and romance.

Marissa's story of Anna began with a dream about being kidnapped with Adam Savage from Mythbusters (Yes, really). Over the next year and a half, it morphed into the story that is now known as "The Life of Anna." She has several other stories in progress, one of which is based on her kidnapped dream called Distorted Hope.

Marissa stays busy homeschooling her two elementary age sons, running her household, fending off two adorable kittens, and interacting with her readers on social media. She is a self-proclaimed geek and has a deep love for all things Doctor Who. She is also actively pursuing a more natural lifestyle, which includes essential oils, natural cleaning products, and whole, organic foods. Marissa's addictions include the aforementioned Doctor Who, the Science and History Channels, anything chocolate mint, vintage books, cute kitty cats, and laughter.
